Harrow is often called the capital of Metro-land, and it shows in its housing. When the Metropolitan Railway pushed out through Pinner, North Harrow and Rayners Lane in the early twentieth century, it covered the borough in interwar semi-detached houses, and those cavity-walled 1930s semis are still the dominant stock today. In them the problem is rarely classic rising damp. Far more often it is penetrating damp through gables, bays, render and bridged cavities, or condensation and black mould once double glazing has cut down the ventilation.
Then there is the older Harrow.
