Aerial Roof Inspections

Drone Roof Survey

A drone roof survey gives you a clear, close up look at every tile, gutter, chimney and flashing point. No scaffolding, no ladders, no guesswork. What used to take days to arrange now takes about an hour on site.

  • No scaffolding required. We inspect every inch of your roof without putting a single ladder up.
  • High resolution footage. Every tile, joint and flashing point captured in detail, not a blurry zoomed in photo from the garden.
  • Clear written report. Photos, findings and honest recommendations, so you know exactly where you stand.
  • Qualified surveyors. Your report is reviewed by CSSW and CSRT trained surveyors, not a drone operator working alone.

Why Choose a Drone Survey Over a Traditional Roof Inspection?

Most roof problems stay hidden until the damage shows up inside. A stained ceiling, a wet loft, water dripping in around the chimney. By the time you can see it from the sofa, the repair bill is usually bigger than it needed to be.

A traditional inspection is not always practical. Once you factor in scaffolding hire or the limits of what can safely be reached from a ladder, you often end up paying more for a partial view of the roof. An aerial roof survey gets above the problem, quite literally, and lets us see the entire roof surface from angles nobody standing on a ladder can reach.

It is quicker too. What might take a day or two to arrange with scaffolding can usually be done in under an hour with a roof survey using drones, weather permitting. That means less disruption to you and a faster turnaround on your report, which is why more property owners now book an aerial roof inspection rather than defaulting to scaffolding.

What a Drone Roof Survey Involves

A drone roofing inspection is straightforward, but it is methodical. Here is what actually happens when we come out.

  1. 1

Full flight over every roof section

High resolution photographs and video captured from multiple angles, covering the whole roof rather than the sections that happen to be reachable.

  2. 2

Close inspection of the vulnerable points

Ridge tiles, valleys, flashing, chimneys and gutters. These are the places roof problems almost always start.

  3. 3

    Tile, slate and vegetation check

We look for cracked, slipped or missing tiles and slates, along with moss and plant growth building up across the surface.

  4. 4

Signs of water entry or movement

Visible staining, sagging and structural movement that suggest water is already getting in.

  5. 5

    Your written report

A clear report with the photographs attached, showing what we found and setting out what should happen next. Every drone roof assessment is reviewed by a qualified surveyor before it reaches you.

If the roof turns out to be the source of damp showing up inside the property, we can carry the investigation through rather than hand you back to someone else. A damp survey or a thermal imaging survey picks up where the aerial inspection stops.

What We Check For

A roof can look perfectly fine from the ground and still be hiding a problem. Our roof inspection by drone targets the issues that tend to get missed until they become expensive.

Damaged or Missing Tiles

Cracked, slipped or missing tiles and slates letting water through, often completely invisible from street level.

Flashing and Chimney Issues

Worn or lifted flashing around chimneys and joints, one of the most common sources of a roof leak.

Guttering and Blockages

Sagging, cracked or blocked gutters that push water back into the building fabric further down the property.

Moss and Vegetation

Moss and plant growth that traps moisture against the roof surface and accelerates wear on tiles and mortar.

Signs of Water Ingress

Staining, sagging felt or timber and other early warnings that water is already getting in. This is exactly what a drone inspection for roof leaks is built to catch early.

Storm and Weather Damage

Damage from high winds, heavy rain or fallen debris, documented with photographs. This is where a drone roof inspection for storm damage proves its worth.

Who Needs a Drone Roof Survey?

A drone roof survey suits almost any building where getting a proper look at the roof is difficult, expensive, or both.

  • Residential PropertiesCheck the true condition of your roof without a scaffold going up.
  • Commercial RoofsFull coverage of large roof areas, captured fast and documented properly.
  • Property Managers and LandlordsRoutine condition checks across a portfolio with clear, comparable reports.
  • Pre Purchase ChecksKnow what you are buying before you commit, not after you move in.
  • Storm Damage and ClaimsDated photographic evidence you can put in front of an insurer.
  • New Build HandoverVerify workmanship across the roof before you sign the build off.

It also solves the awkward ones. Very steep pitches, tall buildings, and roofs boxed in by conservatories and extensions where ladder access is genuinely unsafe. Those are precisely the situations a drone inspection for hard to access roofs was designed for. The same goes for a drone survey for flat roofs, which can be just as difficult to check safely on foot.

Signs You Need a Roof Survey

It is easy to put off checking a roof until something obvious goes wrong. A few signs it is worth looking sooner rather than later.

  • A damp patch or stain appearing on a ceiling
  • Missing or slipped tiles you have spotted from the ground
  • Moss or plant growth building up across the roof
  • A recent storm, high winds or fallen debris nearby
  • Gutters overflowing or sagging away from the roofline
  • A roof that has not been checked in several years
  • You are buying and want the roof's true condition on record
  • Damp appearing high on a wall or around a chimney breast

Drone Roof Survey FAQs

What is a drone roof survey?

A drone roof survey is an inspection carried out using a camera equipped drone in place of a ladder or scaffolding. It gives us clear, high resolution images of the whole roof so we can assess damage, wear and defects without anyone having to climb onto the roof. It is a modern drone roof inspection that replaces the old scaffolding and ladder approach.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

Usually 30 to 60 minutes on site, depending on the size and shape of the roof. Larger commercial buildings take longer. Your written report follows within a few working days, and our drone roof inspection services all run to that same timeframe.

Is a drone roof survey as accurate as a physical inspection?

For assessing visible condition, a drone gives you more coverage than a ladder inspection, because we can photograph the entire roof from angles nobody can reach on foot. It is still a visual survey, so where something needs physical testing or a closer hands on look, we will tell you that plainly in the report rather than guess.

Can a drone roof survey be used for insurance claims?

Yes. The photographs and footage we capture are commonly used to support storm and weather damage claims, because they clearly document the condition of the roof before any repair work begins.

Do you need permission to fly a drone over my property?

We work within UK Civil Aviation Authority drone rules and complete the necessary checks before any flight. For most residential and commercial properties this is straightforward, and we will confirm anything specific to your address with you beforehand.

Does a drone survey work on flat roofs as well as pitched roofs?

Yes, and flat roofs are one of the most common reasons people book one. Getting onto a flat roof to inspect it manually is often awkward and sometimes unsafe, so a drone survey for flat roofs gives you full coverage without anybody going up there.

What happens if the survey finds a problem?

We talk you through exactly what we found, show you the footage so you can see it for yourself, and set out what needs doing next in order of priority. You are under no obligation to proceed with us.
