Why Homes Need Ventilation
Older homes used to breathe on their own, through draughty windows, open chimneys and gaps in the fabric. Modern homes are the opposite: double glazed, draught proofed and insulated to keep heat in. That is good for energy bills, but it also traps the moisture we produce every day from cooking, showering, drying laundry and simply breathing.
With nowhere to go, that moisture settles on cold surfaces as condensation and feeds black mould. The answer is not to dry the air with a damp proof course, it is to move it out and bring fresh air in. That is what ventilation does, and done right it is the genuine, lasting fix for condensation and mould.

Which System is Right for You?
Anyone who recommends the same system for every home is guessing. The right choice comes down to how old and how airtight your home is, and where the moisture is coming from.
For most older, leakier homes with condensation and mould across several rooms, PIV is usually the most effective and least disruptive answer. Where the trouble is mainly in the bathroom or kitchen, source extraction with good fans or dMEV does the job. For modern, airtight homes and new builds, MVHR earns its place by recovering heat as it ventilates. We tell you which, and why.
