Never heard of them? Well, now you have! Window condensation absorbers are a new type of gadget that you’ll have seen in plenty of homemade guises over the years.
You know how it goes: the weather takes a turn outside, the nights close in, and the condensation begins to build up on the inside of the windows.
To stop it running down and ruining the wallpaper, or pooling in an unsightly way on the sills, some clever member of the family rolls up a tea towel to absorb the deluge overnight.
All a window condensation absorber does is replace that DIY approach with a made-for-purpose absorbing pad. Now, suggesting you buy one of those doesn’t make for a particularly interesting article, so we’re going to throw in some tips from our damp experts.
Have a look at them and then put them into action and you’ll be able to enjoy bone dry windows every morning.

Tip 1: Keep the air moving

Cold windows are like magnets to the cold water droplets in the air. As the winter closes in they virtually get sucked over onto the inside of your windows, causing all of that troublesome condensation to come into view.
No one wants that to happen, especially if you’ve had damp problems before, so the trick to keep the water in the air guessing.
Left to its own devices, cold air will land on a cold window and condense. Left unchecked this will result in pools of water on your sills and a steady trickle ruining your wallpaper.
You don’t want that, we don’t want that, and not even the water in the air wants that. By keeping the air moving with a fan or an open window, you’ll give it other places to go rather than settling on your windows.
It may take a little trial and error but it will make all the difference. Alternatively, ask one of our damp experts for a helping hand and put your feet up while they do the hard work so you don’t have to.
Tip 2: Keep the room warm
Warm rooms mean warmer windows, which quickly reduces how likely the water is to condense on the inner surface of the glass.
No matter how high you heat the room your windows will always be colder than your walls — they’re made from a different material after all — so try not to give the thermostat too hard if a little condensation remains.
The fact that there is still a degree of moisture on your windows means that extra ventilation is needed.
If the time of year just doesn’t lend itself to opening a window overnight, and you don’t have a dehumidifier to hand, a window condensation absorber quickly becomes the perfect compromise.
Roll it out just before bed, let it work through the night, and then hang it up to dry in a different room during the day. That way you’ll have an effective little deterrent for those pools of water that can quickly spoil your wallpaper.
Tip 3: Keep the water on its toes
Dehumidifiers are another way to keep that troublesome condensation out of bother. Setting one up on a light setting throughout the day, or high/medium at night, will help your room dry out just enough to stop the condensation from emerging.
Ideal if you want to make sure that your home stays as warm and cosy as it should throughout the year.
Another way to keep the water on its toes is to have a second, and possibly even a third, absorber ready and waiting in the wings.
If you find that the first one is getting saturated overnight, switching to a dry one during the day and opening a couple of windows will help you combat damp in your home.
Anything that absorbs the water, whether it be fabric or condensing capture like with a dehumidifier, will make a big difference if used consistently.
Consistency really is the name of the game here folks because it’s what will allow you to make constant progress and put the right habits and practices into place.
If you’re unsure about the specifics of what you need to do, and how often you need to do them, our experts are only too happy to help you defeat damp like a pro.
Tip 4: Keep the air fresh
There’s no better way to purify the air in your home than by having a window open and letting a gentle breeze in. Of course if you’re reading this in the midst of a heavy winter deluge, you’re going to want to keep your windows firmly shut for the rest of the day.
One day out of the week really won’t do much harm, so try not to worry unduly.
Our experts are always on hand to help provide my in-depth and detailed ventilation solutions to keep your air fresh and circulating so condensation is never an issue again.
You can also double up on the amount of time you crack your windows open the next day when the weather is hopefully a little dryer outside.
Every little bit helps when it’s time to conquer condensation, so don’t worry if you have to make a variety of small changes to see the back of that water.
